I just added 1-800-FREE411 (1-800-373-3411) to my cell phone’s speed dial. I’ve been spending a fortune on Verizon’s 411 service, which charges $1.50 per call, but some directory-assistance services can cost $2.50 per request.

1-800-FREE411 works on landlines, too. The only catch is you must listen to a 12 second ad if a related business has bought advertising.
