For those of you that remember Lums Restaurant in Miami Beach, you will appreciate this post. I received this email earlier today.
LUMS RESTAURANT
"Could you please tell me if the above restaurant still exists? During the summer of 1981 when I was employed in a better paid job, I enjoyed the first of two lovely holidays in the USA. During the first week of my holiday I stayed in Miami Beach where I enjoyed my breakfasts and evening meals in Lums Restaurant, Collins Avenue. For me, and having travelled extensively through Britain, western Europe and to Trinidad & Tobago, I think that Lums Restaurant is the best restaurant/bar in the world for the following reasons:-
- good food and drinks
- terrific ambience and friendliness that reflected the American culture
- excellent service and cleanliness
Here in Britain we have a term – the local – which refers to a good quality and popular local pub where the neighbourhood congregate to socialise with their family and friends. Had I the good fortune to reside in Miami Beach, Lums bar would be that “local”. Since 1970 I have been typing up my own travelogues of my holidays which include places in which I have eaten/drank and Lums is the top of my listing and I regard the bar as the best in the world. For me, this particular restaurant will always be remembered with fondness as long as I live."
It's nice to know that even though restaurants don't always last, the memories will never die.
