Chat Noir: A Bizarre Cabaret Show [Video]ABOVE: Journey inside Chat Noir and view the evening through the distorted lens of Absinthe. Le Chat Noir which is French for Black Cat was a 19th-century cabaret in the bohemian Montmartre district of Paris. It was rife with absinthe drinkers and was referred to as one of the most extraordinary cabarets in the world! Artsy Nightlife Is Alive And Well At Dream On Monday Nights Jump a century or so forward to Miami Beach on a Monday night at Dream night club for the rebirth of Chat Noir. The night features a stage show at 10:30pm produced by Circ X’s ringmaster, Diana Lozano. Purring around the club during the show are some very sexy black cats, dressed in catwoman outfits that glow with LED lights. Each week, the show is a different mix of burlesque, live music, free styling on the mic, drag queens, contortionists, artists, and local freaks from South Beach. One of my delights has been the weekly appearance of Dr. Geek who is a South Beach staple of street performers. When you catch him on Lincoln Road or sometimes Ocean Drive he always has a portable mic on hand. Anytime of day he is rapping to passer byers and blending in freestyle versus of their names. Absinthe, Cirque and Burlesque on the Beach Tipping on the side of erotic, the burlesque show is excellent and worthy of any true cabaret. Dancing through the night are absinthe fairies sampling small drinks of Absinthe. Although the show leaves some who have never ventured into the world of cabaret, cirque or edgy modern performance confused. The first show I watched with Midwesterners nearby who were confused and delighted all at the same time. Which to me, the glorious goal of any modern cabaret is to take those that live in a mundane world to an exotic and bizarre new place. I have heard many locals rave about it being a fun alternative to just another night at a club. But if you ware looking for standard club vibe, don’t worry between acts and after the show the DJ spins contemporary club music till 5 AM. To those who have said Miami Beach has nothing but fake body parts flaunted by money and Gucci filled Bravado be damned, this is an authentic piece of modern culture in a club. Free admission to this event from Miami Beach 411.com.
