Show Off Your Alter Ego at the Fetish Party

You hear the word “fetish” and a number of things normally come to mind: dominatrix, sexy shoes, or something taboo you should never express around others. The word alone makes many people feel dirty. But what about when fetish is celebrated like the way it is at Fetish Factory’s Alter Ego fetish party. Alter Ego is an ongoing monthly event that has been going strong for over 13 years.

You might wonder, what fetish in this context is. Here is a blurb from Wikipedia’s Fetish Fashion Article:

“Fetish Fashion is a type of clothing usually created to be extreme or provocative. These styles are not usually worn by the majority of people on any regular basis. They are usually made of materials such as leather, latex, nylon, PVC, spandex and fishnet.”

OK so you get the “fetish” part but where does the “alter ego” fit in?

What is Batman without the batsuit? Just a rich playboy, but with the batsuit on, his alter ego is a gothic crime fighter.  The Alter Ego party is a chance to express a part of you that you just can’t other wise. 

My partner and I were curious, we saw the Valentine’s Day party was coming up. Something dark and thorny yet erotic so we decided to go.

What to wear when attending a fetish party?

A showroom full of rubber, vinyl and leather is what we found at the Fetish Factory a fetish store located on at 855 East Oakland Park Blvd. in Fort Lauderdale. Which is not quite where you might expect this store, you see Oakland Park Blvd. is the sort of average strip mall laden street you would find in any city. Yet, there as a shiny mecca to all things fetish sits the Fetish Factory and Strut their shoe store.

We browsed over the many racks of intriguing outfits many not risqué in the minimalists sense. There were long rubber dresses and many of the men’s choices were long pants. Yet they all had something extra about them whether it was the material being latex, or spikes, everything was a little different. Keep in mind, these are not the cheap vinyl items you see at Hot Topic around Halloween. Many of the pieces were rather pricey because many are made in Europe.  Yet, people still shop for one wonderful reason and that is fetish- “the irrational desire for an object”.

You might imagine, the feeling is somewhere between excitement and confusion, browsing and trying to figure out what our alter egos’ would wear. We thought we had found nothing and we were about to throw in the towel. Out of the corner of my eye I spied a red vinyl jacket that begged to be tried on. I thought maybe it was too much. But it fit and kind of settled into my skin. I was wondering if that was how Batman felt. My date to be was trying mini skirts made of vinyl as well. We were now taking shape. I got daring and tried on a small pair of man shorts it was blazing contrast to the long sleeve jacket. She too decided to get wild and picked pasties and a fishnet top as her covering. We were ready for the big night.

Dress code strictly enforced

You may be wondering, why are we looking for costumes for our alter ego? It is because the dress code is strictly enforced. Here is what the website says:

“We command the following attire at our fetish events:Rubber, Leather, Vinyl, Gothic, Fetish Glam, Cyber Erotic, Kinky Drag, Sexy Uniforms, Victorian, Ultra Formal (Tuxedo)

NO JEANS or All-black Streetwear / Regular Clubwear! If you do not adhere to our dress code then you will be denied admission even if you have purchased a ticket in advance!

Can’t I just slide them $100 at the door and just get in without having to dress up?

Absolutely not. Heavy-handed techniques like this may work on South Beach, but at our parties, you will never get into the door by trying to bribe the dress code person. They will be very offended, you will feel like an ass, and they will ask you to leave.”

You got to dress up.

Happy shiny people dressed in dark, gothic garb

We were wowed as we entered. Imagine being dressed in the way you might be in a dark erotic film, then mix in a thousand other people dressed crazier than you. We walked in and got drinks, it seemed like the easiest way to ease into the night. Women and men come in a variety of sizes and so do our alter egos. Party goers of every shade and size all painted and in their costume. There were queens, dominatrix, submissive, goths, glams, tuxedos and lingerie. Off in a corner were a man and a women lightly spanking. Nothing too obscene. Not in your face, just there. You can watch or not. We watched.

People were letting loose on the dance floor. The crowd had a nice space distance. No one in your face, no one trying to get up on you! Just people in a community who share a common interest of letting their alter ego come out to play. A little naughty a little risqué but a whole lot of fun.

The go-go dancers were in matching outfits moving to the music. What you can expect to see are gorgeous women in exotic skin blending clothing. Also you will see older men with nothing more than a collar and g-string. It all blends into this pan-fetish anything goes world.

BBQ & Spanking

We ventured outside, past the outdoor bar and DJ to find another surreal image. There was a chef grilling up burgers and hot dogs and people in the open night air drinking beers. It felt like a house party/ late night bar-b-que. Except we were all in fetish clothing or not so much clothing as is the case for many, our bodies warm in the tropical winter air. Then the crack of the whip as it came down on the ass of the willing leaning up against the x. It has this special relaxed feel of fetish house party.

Feeling naughty on the dance floor

As the night wore one it seemed people were not wearing out because the venue continued to fill. By some point well after midnight moving about was hard and the dance floor had become tight and there was some touching of skin on skin just out of lack of room. Some people love that vibe. The warmth of each other’s bodies, maybe stranger’s bodies touching their fantasy dressed body. We went back for the bar-b-que and fresh air.
