Goodfellas Style Airport Robbery Solved

Back in December, we reported about the Lufthansa heist at MIA.

The FBI caught the crooks, but not before one of them was kidnapped, beaten, and held for ransom.

Authorities announced that they dug up $300,000 of the cash from underneath brick pavers at the Miami-Dade home of Karls and Cinnamon Monzon.The money was vacuum sealed in plastic. Agents recovered $80,000 from the Monzons’ attic early this year.Another $85,000 was recovered from another defendant and about $800,000 was found at another Miami-area home.

A Miami grand jury indicted Karls Monzon, Onelio Diaz, and Jeffrey Boatwright for allegedly planning and committing the robbery.

Boatwright was later kidnapped by three men, who threatened to kill him unless his robbery cohorts paid $500,000. On Feb. 18, agents found him bound and beaten in the bed of a pickup truck.

The Monzons, Boatwright, and Diaz all face federal charges for taking the money.

Whether or not the crooks were inspired by the movie “Goodfellas” has not been confirmed.
