The Arsht Center (formerly known as the Carnival Center) hosts Flamenco Festival Miami Thursday (2/7) through Saturday (2/9). Singers Carmen Linares and Miguel Poveda share the stage Thursday; the Tomatito Quintet is live Friday (2/8); dancers Merche Esmeralda, Belén Maya, and Rocío Molina perform Saturday. Enjoy free performances and try a flamenco or salsa class at Target Globalbeat also at the Arsht Center on Saturday. Or see Mavis Staples and the Blind Boys of Alabama Sunday (2/10).

For all you in-line skaters, it’s the 8th Annual Eskate Friday through Sunday. There will be skating tours, dinners, parties, and more! For those of you who dare to skate in the nude, WildFyre Society’s Gay Nudist Skate Night takes place Sunday night.

Big names in town this week: The Go-Gos are at the Fillmore Miami Beach Friday; Chris Rock is at Hard Rock Live Monday (2/11); and Van Halen will be at the BankAtlantic Center Tuesday (2/12).

This is the last weekend of Global Cuba Fest at Speigelworld. Los Heredos and Tiempre Libre will both perform in the final concert Sunday night. If you have yet to visit Speigelworld, there’s only one week left! Absinthe and The Gazillionaire’s Late Nite Lounge continue through next weekend.

At the Cinematheque this weekend, Amos Gitai is the director of the month and his film Kippur will be shown Thursday. The rest of the weekend is a preview of the Puerto Rican Film Festival with the film Entremedio (A Place Within) Friday and Shut Up and Do It! Saturday. Earlier in the day Saturday, a filmmaking workshop “16mm Experimental Workshop I” is being offered.

Also in film this weekend, the Wolfsonian is showing Trading Women, a documentary about the sex trade in Southeast Asia, on Friday. Saturday a family workshop and film is taking place. The Agitated Images: John Heartfield & German Photomontage exhibit at the Wolfsonian closes Sunday. Be sure to visit while you’re there.

Another family-friendly event taking place Saturday is Fish Tales, a production by the Momentum Dance Company at the Coral Gables Public Library.

Visit the Event Calendar for ongoing exhibits, theater events, parties and happy hours. Don’t forget to send me your event!
