I’m Bored, What’s There To Do? (Snow, Freestyle Superstars, and more)We’re in the midst of the dog days of summer and, thanks to the heat and gas prices, tourists are at home. Could there possibly anything to do? Indeed there is! If you’re willing to venture outside, MoCA has two shows: a Battle of the Bands and jazz by Michael Orta; the Wolfsonian is offering a Deco and Design walking tour; and the Miami FC is in town playing the Atlanta Silverbacks. If you’d prefer air conditioning, there’s plenty to do inside. This is the last weekend of the International Hispanic Theatre Festival. The remaining shows include La Importancia del Abrazo (The Importance of Embracing), performed by Peru’s Komilfo Teatro, at Miami-Dade College and La Celestina, performed by Miam’s own Teatro Avante, at the Arsht Center. Also at the Arsht Center, following sold-out engagements internationally, Slava’s Snowshow begins today. Miami Libre begins tomorrow. Both shows run through August 17th. For a laugh, check out Jerry Seinfeld at the Fillmore Miami Beach at the Jackie Gleason Theater. Take a short drive to see Anita Baker at Hard Rock Live. Or take a trip back to the 80s with the Superstars of Freestyle featuring Lisette Melendez, Lisa Lisa, Stevie B, TKA. Miami Beach Cinematheque will be showing Atom Egoyan’s The Adjuster tonight and Cannes Film Festival award winner The Edge of Heaven in HD the rest of the weekend. Then there’s always the club circuit…Check out Jacob Jeffries and friends at The Van Dyke tonight. Be at the party when Generation X launches their band for Carnival 2008 at Bayside Hut. Or check out any of the weekly party offerings on the Event Calendar (I’ve added some). Is your favorite party or upcoming event missing from the Calendar? Get it added now!
