I’m Bored, What’s There To Do (Summer Shorts, Brazilian Films and Storm Prep Expo)If you’re looking to avoid the weather, there are plenty of indoor activities to enjoy this week! Speaking of weather, Hurricane Season officially begins this weekend. Residents should stop at the Convention Center for the Storm Prep Expo.
On to the fun stuff!! The annual Summer Shorts Festival begins this weekend at the Arsht Center. Apologies to you fashionistas, this is short PLAYS, as in theater, not clothing. The festival consists of Signature Shorts, Shorts4Kids and Undershorts (for In film, the Brazilian Film Festival will be going on around town for the next week. The event kicks off with outdoor screenings at the North Beach Bandshell Friday night and continues through the week with screenings at the Colony Theater, Miami Beach Cinematheque, and the Wolfsonian. Also, the Miami and Ft Lauderdale Gay & Lesbian Film Festivals are offering a sneak preview of Kiss the Bride, starring Tori Spelling, Phillip Karner, and James O’Shea. Then there’s music: the Freestyle Invasion arrives at the BankUnited Center; the Fillmore Miami Beach at the Jackie Gleason Theater hosts Dream Theater’s Progressive Nation 2008; and Roberto Carlos will be at the AA Arena. For parties, we’ve heard Benny Benassi will be at Mansion and Generation X’s Seduction will be held at Bayside Hut, in addition to the numerous parties that go on around town every week. Visit the Events Calendar for the latest info. And if you’re looking to spend a little time outside (and not on the beach or walking Lincoln Road) the Miami FC host the Seattle Sounders this weekend. Is your event on our calendar??? Well why not? We can’t post it if you don’t send it!!!
