The cost for non-citizens to legally take up residence in the United States goes up October 26. Immigration fees increase for services such as applications for citizenship, green cards, work permits or petitions for foreign relatives of U.S. citizens or green-card holders.

U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services plans to raise fees for 36 immigration forms and petitions by $5 to $20. Petitioners who are unable to pay the fees can request a waiver, which can be granted by the immigration service on a case-by-case basis.
