A Ladies’ Look at E11even

The tagline “It’s Exactly What you Think it Is” isn’t exactly helpful.

For months we watched as the former Gold Rush space across from Club Space was transformed into some sort of mysterious megacomplex, with nothing to explain it but a poorly spelled number and a picture that looked like a really confusing perfume ad.

Was this a strip club? A dance club? An S&M club? A $40 million Halloween supply shop?

Sure, why not.

But in late January once the concrete veil of mystery was lifted from E11even and it opened its doors, people still seemed confused.

And by people, I mean women.

Guys will go to anything if we hear the word “topless,” but E11even is positioning itself as a club first, and most importantly a club that is couple-and-female friendly. And not in the kinky, maybe-she’s-into-girls way like Scarlett’s, but in the “No, I’d come here even if my boyfriend wasn’t making me” way. 

So is E11even really a normal club with slightly….um…...nontraditional décor? Or is it just another Miami strip club dressed up in $40 million worth of LED and sound equipment?

We sent our own Jessica Slater - a Brit who describes strip clubs with words usually reserved for serial killers and bad waiters -  Downtown to see if this is really a place a girl would want to go.

First off, I find strip clubs vile. Why would a man ever want to go look at a bunch of naked girls when he has one at home?

But this place doesn’t feel like one. It feels like a club, and the dancers just happen to have no top on. I mean we’ve all been to Mansion, right? There’s not a lot of difference between the topless girls here and the girls in in fishnets and lingerie there. This might even be a little classier.

The DJ is playing it like a club, so you’re not getting cheesy Motley Crue songs and constant announcements calling girls to the mainstage. Really, if you don’t watch dancers, you could be in a normal SoBe club. Once the place gets full they actually take out the pole so you can dance, and there are stage shows with pro dancers and gymnasts so it’s not some dirty strip club.

Most importantly, there’s no vagina in your face, which as a girl pretty much makes the difference between being a fun time and being grossed out. It probably happens in the private areas, but if you’re going back there, you’re probably the type of girl who likes strip clubs. They keep their bottoms on in the main room, so it feels okay to go with your boyfriend.

The whole place is classy. The upstairs restaurant is like Nikki Beach; an open terrace with no dancers at all if you want some food, and you can even get up there by a separate elevator. Most importantly, the staff are sooo polite. No Miami attitude. Friendly, smiling, no rudeness. And the dancers never bother you for tips or anything, since they’re not really stripping.

The whole place just felt burlesque to me. Sure, the Strip club aspect is there if you want, but we had a good date, went upstairs to the lounge to check out the line at Space, had drinks by the bar, danced and hung out. And the drinks are a reasonable (by Miami standards) $15 for top shelf.  It was a fun night, and we’ll definitely go back .
