Miami Beach Crime RateMiami Beach Chief of Police Donald De Lucca announced the crime rate has dropped. Here is a PDF of the press release. Statistics show the crime rate for 2005 has dropped 10.89% in comparison with 2004. Violent Crimes, which include Homicide, Rape, Robbery and Aggravated Assault, were down 7.3% in 2005 as compared to 2004. Property Crimes, which include Burglary, Larceny, and Auto Theft, was down 11.2% in 2005 as compared to 2004. The number of sexual battery crimes increased by nearly 20 percent. In 2005, there were 62 cases of sexual battery reported to the police, compared to 52 cases the previous year. Arrests went down from 11,957 in 2004 to 10,185 in 2005, a decrease of nearly 15 percent. Chief De Lucca attributes the drop in crime to the cooperation between residents’, businesses, city officials, as well as the hard work by the men and women of the Miami Beach Police Department.
