Miami Caliente Promises to be Hotter Than Canes and DolphinsThe Miami Dolphins are having another dismal season. The Miami Hurricanes are proving unable to win the big games. The Florida Marlins finished under .500 for the first time since 2007. And the Miami Heat look promising but you might have to take out a mortgage on your home to see them live. So where does that leave Miami sports fans? Well the Miami Caliente are kicking off their weekend this weekend and they look very hot this year. The Caliente, Miami’s Lingerie Football team, will play the Philadelphia Passion at FIU Stadium on Friday. Kick-off is at 9 p.m. The Passion already demolished the Baltimore Charm 60-6, but Miami is expected to have an offensive powerhouse this year, if you believe the team’s press release.
And chances are, it should be easier to get into this game than it was into last week’s Miami Hurricane – Florida State Seminole game. In fact, I am a long-time veteran of buying tickets right before game-time, usually from groups of fans who have an extra tickets and are willing to part with them for face value or less. And back in the Orange Bowl days – when we couldn’t find tickets - we would simply slip the kid at the door a few twenties depending on the size of our group and make our way in. But that wasn’t the case last Saturday. The only people selling tickets were asking minimum $150 a piece. I might pay that for a National Championship game, but not for a regular season game. In 2001, when the Canes were playing the Nebraska Cornhuskers for the National Championship in the Rose Bowl, I purchased two tickets for $150. But the Rose Bowl has a capacity of more than 91,000, which makes it much harder to sell out, therefore making tickets less valuable. On Saturday, I was willing to spend $50 for a pair of tickets, which got laughed at. I also got laughed at when I tried to bribe the lady at the door. She said I would have to bribe several guards to get in considering one must go through several guards to enter the stadium. But it was just as well we didn’t make it into the stadium because the Hurricanes ended up getting whipped by a score of 45-17. We actually had a better time in the parking lot partying with loads of other fans who didn’t make it into the game. We had a couple of kegs of beer as well as several large television screens. When the game started getting out of hand, a DJ pulled out his turntable and started playing music, but that got quickly shut down by the cops as you can see in the video below. So we just continued drinking, carousing and complaining about the game until it was over, realizing our season is done. But being from Miami, we are optimists and are looking forward to the Miami Caliente because even if they have a losing season, they will at least look good on the field. And at least the tickets are affordable, ranging from $23 to $88. Click here to purchase.
