Miami Techies Prepare for Austin Tech Conference
Clad in her Texan boots, South by Southwest representative Kathryn Irwin asked the handful of techies who had arrived for the SXSW pre-mixer party in Miami if they had any questions about next month’s conference in Austin. A couple of hands went up, mainly asking about hotel rooms, which have not been available for weeks now. Miami Beach 411 was lucky to get a couple of rooms five miles from the conference. And that was months ago. “Your best bet is to stay with a friend,” said Irwin. Irwin asked the group if anybody had anymore questions. Matt Meltzer, who will be with me in Austin attending and covering the conference for our readers, asked the all-important question. Can we have a couple more of those free drink tickets? And that’s when the party started, lasting several hours into the night at Black Bar in one of the grimiest neighborhoods in Miami, on the outskirts of Overtown. If there is one thing Miami locals can do better than Austin locals is party. Sure, they party in Austin. Party very hard. But their last call is at 2 a.m. We don’t really have a last call in Miami. Not if you know where to go. So Austin better prepare itself, at least for Matt and I, because we are going to raise some serious hell in Texas. If you doubt us, take a look at the video as to what to expect. I’m hoping Scosche has released their wireless microphone for the Flip camera by then because as you can tell by the video, it would really help us conduct our interviews as we take advantage of the free booze. Otherwise, I just might have to resort to my Canon HG 10 and I really don’t want to do that because the editing process takes so much longer (meaning it will eat into my free booze time). Excuse the tech talk, but this is the conversation that gets the juices flowing at SXSW. We will be attending the conference from March 10-15. We will probably hype it up in the upcoming weeks. For more information on SXSW, check out this link. It’s essentially a music conference that evolved to include a film and interactive (meaning tech or nerd) conference. We’ll be covering the tech and film conference. Our friends from Rakontur (Cocaine Cowboys and The U) will be debuting Square Grouper, a documentary about the marijuana smuggling business in the 1970s.

Nice video, Carlos. Looks like a cool group of people. Matt is a natural in front of the camera.
