Miami Rum Renaissance Festival Rousing Success In Only Its Second Year
Every time we turn around in Miami, there is a new excuse to party. From the ongoing food festivals to the art festivals to the film festivals, our weekends are filled with, well, festivities. And just over the weekend we had the Miami Rum Renaissance Festival, which is only in its second year but drew more than a thousand people from across the globe to indulge in sugar-fermented spirits. “We had 39 exhibitors with about 109 different kinds of rums,†said Robert Burr, who organized the rum festival. A panel of 24 judges tasted all the rums to determine the best tasting in several categories, including white, gold and aged rums. Burr has since announced the winners on this link. “One of the most surprising rums was the Cartavio rum from Peru,†Burr said. “We tend to associate pisco with Peru but not rum.†The festival was held over five days at the Raleigh hotel. And like most Miami events, it attracted its share of celebrities, including Dennis Rodman. “He liked the Zacapa rum, which is from Guatemala,†Burr said.\ And what good is a rum festival without a cigar maker? Check out the above video to see the cigar maker at work.

Great review, Carlos. It really was fun, even if the Raleigh hotel wouldn’t let us use the toilets. That perspective coming soon on Sex and the Beach!
