If it’s an action movie set in Miami, you can expect the storyline to involve drugs, or smuggling guns; and “Transporter 2” just like its predecessor involves both, along with fast cars, beautiful women, and great stunt driving.

The swashbuckling ex-Special Forces soldier Frank Martin is back; this time living in Miami, FL. In “Transporter 2,” Frank has quit taking up high risk transportation assignments, and is now a private chauffeur for the Billings family. Mr. Billings is a United States Senator who has launched a crusade against drug smugglers.  This has upset the Miami drug cartel, and they are they are out to take him down however they can, including kidnapping the Senator’s son and poisoning world delegates with a deadly vaccine.

Unfortunately, the story is pretty pathetic, but no Transporter fan watched Part 2 expecting a fine storyline. The well choreographed action sequences more than make up for the looseness in the plot.

The movie begins with an intense fight scene, where a gang of thugs not knowing Frank’s capabilities, attempt to steal his beloved car, an Audi TT coupe. Before the fight begins, Frank takes off his jacket and calmly says, “just been to the dry cleaners”. Although the introduction is not as exciting as the opening scene in “Transporter 1,” it is more amusing. After beating up the criminals, Frank reprimands himself on being late, and drives off. Here the audience is treated to a beautiful aerial shot of Miami.

Jason Statham give a fine performance as Frank. At times you may find the action over the top. There is a particular scene where Frank gets rid of a bomb attached to his car defying all the laws of physics (it is fortunate that Sir Isaac Newton is not alive as he would be very impressed after watching this).

There is also a brilliant car chase through South Beach where Frank causes significant damage to a lifeguard stand on the beach.

The humor in the movie is good.

The movie also highlights the problem of cocaine smuggling, and the desperate measures criminals can take to keep their business running. The film also sends a positive message about how serious the police are in curbing drug trafficking, and bringing criminals to justice. But it’s really about crazy car chases and awesome fight scenes.

patterns says:

Transporter 2 is so lightweight and frivolous, it makes one of Roger Moore’s Bond epics look like Crime and Punishment.
