Bistro 555 at Wine Depot in South Beach

It is time I shared my best kept secret with you about the place to go for a fun sophisticated time in Miami Beach. Perfect for a date, evening with friends or even lunch with your boss, Wine Depot is a hidden gem, tucked away in a residential area of South Beach. Located between 5th and 6th street on Jefferson, you could easily go past Wine Depot and not know what was inside. But don’t let the nondescript building fool you. Inside holds an amazing wine store full of over 400 wines and champagnes from France, Italy, Spain and many other countries.

Tuesday Tastings at Wine Depot

Tuesday nights are usually quiet in South Beach but not at Wine Depot. Each week they host ‘Tuesday Tastings’, free wine tastings between 6-8pm. I attended the recent champagne Moet tasting and was able to try different glasses of Brut and Rose. The events are full of people enjoying themselves in the fun atmosphere created by the bartenders and the bottles offered at the tastings are available to purchase at a discounted price that evening.
If the wine offered at the tasting does not appeal to you, there is the rest of the wine store to explore where you will be sure to find something to take home. The sections are divided by country and marked not by signs but by the country’s flag. After wandering the rows of bottles, once you have made your selection there is no need to wait until you get home to open it. For a small corkage fee you can enjoy your newly purchased wine at the charming bar. And if a whole bottle is too much, enjoy wine by the glass from their vast selection, starting at $7 a glass.

Enjoy the Ambiance at Bistro 555

After exploring the wine store, the evening does not need to end there. You have sampled the wine, now you can sample their menu and adjacent to the bar is the outdoor patio that holds the real magic of Wine Depot. The outside garden has been transformed into a beautiful dining area hidden behind trees decorated with strings of white lights. Not visible from the street, it creates an intimate dining experience for you and your table. The walls are decorated with colorful paintings and once night falls the lighting sets a cozy almost romantic setting.
All the food at Bistro 555 has been chosen with the wine in mind. The menu has a variety of salads, cheese platters, tapas, and entrees such as seared tuna, steak and duck confit. There are many seafood offerings in the tapas section to choose from including octopus, mussels, shrimp and salmon tartar. My table ordered the camembert salad entree, mussels with tomato and garlic, cheese bread puffs and sautéed mushrooms with chorizo. Coupled with a bottle of champagne chosen from the tasting, the night ended on a delicious note.

A great night out in South Beach

The Tuesday Tastings are a great way to try wines from all over the world and to meet a lot of other locals who also have discovered the secret of Wine Depot. To RSVP, sign up to their mailing list and you will receive all the details. If you attend the tastings they even sometimes offer a free glass of wine with your meal if you make a table reservation for the same evening. But if you want to eat there another time, Bistro 555 is open 6 days a week for both lunch and dinner.
The Wine Depot offers something for everyone on a night out in South Beach. Whether you want to browse the wine collection, relax at the bar with friends or go on a romantic date, you can do all of that here.

They make great drinks, have a nice wine list and serve appetizers and ceviche (the house specialty). South Beach is great.
