Up until last night 12/19/09, my boyfriend and I have been frequenting Deenie’s. We liked the atmosphere and always had a good time. My boyfriend and I are smokers and there are certian areas that we can’t smoke and abide by the rules. We were upstairs last night and engaging in conversation and Gilbert the manager walked up and accused my boyfriend of smoking in the bathroom. He was rude, hostile and my boyfriend and I promptly left, never to return. It is a shame that one bad apple ALWAYS spoils the whole bunch.
Deenie's Hideaway is located at 5011 West Hillsboro Blvd., Ft. Lauderdale.

For many years—too many to count—Deenie’s has been a fixture in south Florida and enjoyed a national reputation as a GREAT swing club. It was always friendly, never glitzy, and managed to avoid for the most part the disco 70’s, the blow 80’s, and even the Rap/Gansta 90’s and early 2000’s into 2010.
Now under fairly new management, the place has been fabulously updated and the outdoor pool and upstaris play area are great additions. The only drawback, and it’s a big one, is the incoherent tone of the place. It doesn’t know if it wants to be a swing (social) club or a Rave Club. The DJ seems to think he’s on the verge of breaking out nationaly and is intent upon using his position for some kind of mental/musical masturbation for his own gratification. We were there a few weeks ago and the bar area was all but empty, maybe six couples, and the music was so loud you couldn’t even talk to the person sitting next to you, let alone to the bartender. The DJ must have thought he was playing in some Miami warehouse playing to a crowd of 600. Very strange. To make matters worse, the on site manager is some douche named “Gil,” who apparantly has some familial connection with the owner. The guy’s “skills” are suitable to running a prison gang, not a night club. Amazing.
The place has great potential and may get back to its glory days so we’ll give it another chance; but if the captain—whoever the fuck that might be—doesn’t steady the ship and crew soon all might be lost. That really would be a shame.
