South Pointe Park, located next to the beach, has bbq's and
pavilions. Bring a picnic basket and enjoy a nice day at the
park and at the beach. Metered parking is available in the parking
lot.
The $22 million makeover includes 20-foot-wide walkways lined
with Florida limestone running the length of Government Cut;
the restoration of natural sand dunes next to a pathway made
of crushed shells; and an ocean-themed children's playground
with sand dollar spinners and motion-actived water sprays. There
is also a walkway that links to the beachwalk.
At night, the promenade will be lit up by neon light towers
that shine on the walkway.
Leashed dogs are even welcome at the new park. Doggie waste
stations, with doggie bags and trash cans, have been strategically
placed throughout the park.
The park now has two entrances: one at Washington Avenue and
a new pedestrian entrance on Ocean Drive. The park will close
at 10pm daily, but the walkway will remain open until 2am.
