Nobu at the Shore
Club "Worst Dining Experience Ever"
Date: October 11, 2005
Reviewer: Miami Beach 411 User, New York, NY
Visting from NYC and guests at the Shore Club Hotel. Seated 1 hour
later than our confirmed reservation for a party of 2. Hosting staff
extremely rude and pretentious. The environment felt more like a sports
bar than an upscale restaurant. Impossible to carry on a conversation
without shouting. Tried the tasting menu which left us nauseated by
the end of the night that we skipped the dessert. The sushi was not
fresh and practically old and the earlier courses were either oversauced,
overcooked and just plain gross. The bill was overpriced and included
a high, greater than deserved gratuity. No comparison to NOBU in NYC
and should be renamed NO CLASS!
Nobu at the Shore Club "Highly Over-rated"

My boyfriend and I were vacationing in Miami recently for his birthday,
and he decided he wanted to go to Nobu. BIG mistake. This place is
all hype. Aside from being over-priced, the food was not good. He
had the set menu, and only really liked portions in two of the seven
dishes - not a good ratio. I ordered a sushi platter, and was never
brought my Miso soup, which the menu says it comes with. I also ordered
a side of tempura which we were billed for but i never received. By
the time we got the bill, i was too frustrated to even bother arguing
this, and just wanted to get out of there. There was a table of 6
sitting right by us that were all rowdy, drunk, and obnoxious. It
was obvious that we weren't the only table bothered by them. But the
staff or management did nothing to stop it, and kept serving them
shot after shot. I thought it was a server's responsibility to cut
someone off if they drink too much? Also, would you not say something
if a table is very obviously disturbing the meals of everyone else
in your restaurant? Anyway, my advice is going to Nobu
would be a total waste. I would highly recommend, however, going
to Pacific Time and Tantra - both of which are similar in price
to Nobu, but the food , service, and ambience at both make it worth
it!
Nobu at the Shore Club "Best Fast Food I've Ever Had"

Food was excellent, but the service was snobby, stuffy, hurried,
and sub-par. Waiter forgot to bring soup for one of our party, and
also switched two red wines, then didn't want to believe us! Try
Talula or the Blue Door--excellent food and much better service.

Nobu at the Shore Club "Get by with a little help from your
server"

I was in Miami Beach for a week on vacation and decided to try Nobu.
If I have 1 piece of advice about Nobu, it's ASK QUESTIONS!!!!!!!!
After speaking to the host outside for several minutres, reviewing
the menu, we decided since it was my first time the $100 Omasake
(Chef's choice) menu would be my best bet (I was dining alone).
With each of the 8 dishes that arrived, I asked the server
what it was and how to eat it and then I made sure that he was writing
down all the different courses I was having. Questions are KEY to
enjoying your dining experience. There were people in the restaurant
who were obviously frustrated by their food and were not having
a good time. I would have been too if I didn't make a point of asking
how do I eat this, or what goes where, or what is this sauce, or
do I mix this with this??? The poor couple beside me mangled the
wondrous Black Cod dish because they didn't bother to ask how to
deal with it. Turns out if you look closely enough, you can find
where it flakes off into perfectly formed circles that stay marvelously
in your chopsticks and can easily be dipped in the sauses on the
plate. Eat it wrong and it flakes off into impossibly small pieces
that you'd have trouble eating with a spoon.
Over the 2.5 hours I spent in the restaurant I quite simply had
the best seafood and sushi I've ever had in my life. When I'm in
New York in November I'm going to try Nobu again to see if it is
as consistently fantastic as the food I received in Miami Beach.Service
was attentive, friendly, prompt and helpful. Remember ASK QUESTIONS
when you have no idea how to consume what they server you. It doesn't
make you an idiot, it just means you want to enjoy the food as best
as possible. This is a great restaurant.
Nobu at the Shore Club "Disappointing"
Date: July 12, 2004
Reviewer: Miami Beach 411 User, Orlando, FL
After looking forward to eating at Nobu for many years the opportunity
finally arose. Unfortunately, it was just an expensive restaurant
with little else. The service was so so, the tables were so close
together you felt like you were eating with the couple next to you,
and the food was fair. Nothing extraordinary to warrant the high
cost!
Nobu at the Shore Club "Poor service,
small portions, bad food and high prices – what more could
you ask for?"

I went to Nobu this evening with 3 friends and cannot tell you how
disappointed we were. The only thing that we enjoyed about are evening
was each other’s company. I have lived in Miami Beach for
3 years and this was by far the worst dining experience I have had.
Miami has so many great restaurants, there is simply no need to
waste your time and money on this joke of a restaurant. I simply
have nothing good to say about it. Recklessly disappointing…!

If it is your first visit to Nobu please allow your server to guide
you through your meal. They will select the best of menu and you
won't be disappointed. The food is lite and you will be suprised
how much you can eat. Nobu is my favorite restaurant anywhere.
