Hurricane? What Hurricane? Miami Dolphins Cheerleaders Party On at LIV Calendar Bash

Nothing stops a party in Miami.

To look inside LIV nightclub at the Fontainebleau Hotel in Miami Beach last Saturday night, you’d never have guessed a hurricane warning was in effect for Dade County. Revelers were still dressed in their South Beach finest and the Miami Dolphins cheerleaders strutted onstage to release their swimsuit calendar.

And while some came to get a preview of the new calendar, much of the buzz in the club was about the squad’s viral video hit for “Call Me Maybe.”

In case you’ve been hunkered down in your hurricane shelter for the past month or so, the Dolphins Cheerleaders made an impromptu video for the Carly Rae Jepsen hit while shooting the calendar on location in the Dominican Republic. And what was casually posted on YouTube by a member of their production team has become the summer’s biggest Internet sensation that did not include a Korean in a tuxedo.

“It was Lauren’s idea,” Cheerleader Natalie W said. “I think she saw a video online and was like ‘Omigod, this would be so fun to record!”

“The production team was already there, so we said, ‘Ok, let’s do something.’ We lip synced it and they were recording us doing silly things and they made this whole big video. We did not think it would be THAT big.”

The video has currently made Miami’s cheerleaders the most recognizable in the league. And—if nothing else—has gotten people excited about the release of the calendar.

The cheerleaders began the show during the finale of Darrell “DMC” Mc Daniels’ short performance with “Walk this Way.”

They continued on the catwalk with “This is Miami,” playing over the speakers, leading into a Joan Jett tribute that had many of the dancers singing along.

A trio of the cheerleaders came out in faux-LMFAO attire, modeling suits to “I’m Sexy and I know it,” and “I’m in Miami, Trick.”

Finally the cheerleaders gave the crowd what it had been waiting for, as the opening shot of their “Call Me Maybe” video flashed on the screen.

The crowd began to clap in time as the entire squad filled the stage, dancing and singing along to what has become their trademark hit.

“We always enjoy what we do,” Kiley, another of the cheerleaders said. “We’re just grateful for our fans who came out in the storm tonight.”

After the show, the dancers joined the masses outside the Fontainebleau, waiting with their Miami Dolphins Cheerleaders bags for their cars and battling the rain like everyone else. The reality of the storm was setting in, but inside many from the charity event stuck around to experience South Beach’s hottest club.

It may well have been the first time in the history of LIV that there was a long line out front, and at the same time there were actually people inside.
